The Urban Beekeeping Company

Alvéole builds ecological awareness in urban spaces, using honey bees as a platform to inspire environmental change. The social enterprise installs beehives on urban rooftops, providing clients with an educational service and exceptional experience. Since its foundation in 2013, Alvéole has (re)connected 500 companies, 150 schools, 20 cities and 250 families to nature in cities, changing their sense of responsibility towards the environment.

The certified B Corp also uses technological innovation for better interaction between hives and humans. Their social platform, My Hive, is where people can share data and input with the rest of the beekeeping community. It’s where they can see schedules, workshops, photos, videos, real-time reports, and hive history, all posted on a public page which can be shared on social media or on internal or external websites.

Today, Alvéole is comprised of a tight-knit team of 50, active from coast to coast in seven major North American cities.

    Seasonal Schedule

    Spring

At the beginning of the season, we’ll bring our most docile honey bees to your premises, a special Italian breed selected for their pleasant behavior. Our professional beekeeping team is trained to find the best and safest location for your bees - a well-planned project will have no adverse impact on the chosen space.

    Summer

We will visit your hives every three weeks during the beekeeping season for regular checks and maintenance. Your educational workshop schedule will be determined in advance according to your preferences and participant availability. These workshops are hour-long immersive conferences or interactive activities that aim to create a bridge between your tenants and the beekeeping project.

    Fall

At the end of the season, our beekeepers will harvest your honey frames and take them back to our honey house for extraction. We’ll then bottle your honey in the jar size of your choice and work with you to design your customized honey label.
